Using Javascript to steal search history

Would a store like to know what other places you visited before you walked into the door? Would 
an insurance provider like to verify if you’ve recently purchased cigarettes before they sell you that life insurance policy? What about the FBI being interested if you searched Google for bomb building instructions?
