Internet Explorer 7: Hot or Not?
Published November 18th, 2006 in All Categories, Internet Explorer 7
As far as I’m concerned, the real question that’s bouncing around in everyone’s mind is which
browser is better: IE 7 or Firefox 2? Speaking as a Firefox user, even I have to admit that Internet Explorer has made some significant improvements compared to its predecessor. From the inclusion of tabs to the addition of phishing protection, IE 7 is offering a browser worth considering, if using Firefox is not on your list of things to try that is.
But with security conerns remaining on the minds of many, has IE 7 finally gotten a handle on all of the security bugs seen with the previous version?
Come On In, The Security is Fine…Sort Of. Reports are conflicting in this area. While we keep hearing about the better security options with IE 7, there is still the question of the recent vulnerability reported by Secunia. The problem stems from a Microsoft component allegedly found in IE 5.5. Apparently, it’s not so much part of IE that was causing the vulnerability, but rather a component of Outlook Express instead. Does this mean that Microsoft is still asleep at the wheel regarding old vulnerabilities? In this instance, yes, but we could debate this all day and it would get us nowhere. Because of their refusal to update the ancient Outlook Express, I believe that these issues could keep popping up, thanks to the relationship between the mail program and IE.
