Mozilla has renewed an agreement with Google Inc. that pays the browser maker for assigning Google’s search engine as Firefox’s default, Mozilla’s former CEO said this week. The three-year deal is good through November 2011, said Mitchell Baker, currently the chairwoman of Mozilla Corp., in a post to her blog on Tuesday.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 includes a number of security and privacy features that allow it to keep pace with competing browsers such as Firefox and Safari. Carnegie-Mellon University Monday announced it’s making available a free add-on to Mozilla Firefox 3.0 that’s intended to boost browser security. The Firefox add-on was developed at the university’s School of Computer Science and College of Engineering and is available for download here.
