Taking up space in your browser and pushing their own pay-per-click services is a great way for companies to make money. The features might be tempting but there are so many bad toolbars that you’re better off browsing clean.

The European Union’s pursuit of Microsoft Corp. over new charges that Internet Explorer (IE) stifles browser competition is "silly" and "dumb," a noted antitrust expert said today.

Microsoft would better protect users by severing Internet Explorer’s connections to Windows, then patching the browser invisibly in the background — daily if necessary, a security expert argued Tuesday.

Microsoft today released its monthly Patch Tuesday update, targeting eight vulnerabilities spread across Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser, Exchange mail server, SQL database server and Office applications.
